The Effect of nutrition education on ıntradialytic weightgain in haemodialysis patients: systematic review andmeta-analysis
(John Wiley and Sons Inc, 2025) Tüzün Özdemir, Sevda; Karaçam, Zekiye; Usta Yeşilbalkan, Öznur
Aim: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the impact of nutrition education on intradialytic weightgain (IDWG) in haemodialysis (HD) patients based on primary studies.Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.Methods: Ten databases were searched for randomised controlled trials between November 1st and November 30th, 2022. Atotal of 20 studies met the inclusion criteria and were analysed. Results: The meta-analysis of 15 studies examining the effects of nutrition education on IDWG showed a statistically significantdifference between the experimental and control groups (p < 0.0001). Subgroup analysis based on the duration of data collectionindicated that this significant effect persisted in the 1st and 2nd months, as well as the 3rd and 4th months, but was not signifi-cant in the 5th and 6th months (p = 0.15).No Patient or Public Contribution: No patient or public contribution was used.
Climate change related health problems and awareness of nursing students: a cross-sectional study
(John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd, 2025) Öztürk Çetin, Aslıhan; Tüzün Özdemir, Sevda
Climate change can trigger many health problems, from air quality to water resources, from food safety to infectious diseases. Developing nurses' knowledge and skills about the effects of climate change on health can make significant contributions to efforts to protect and improve public health. The aim of the study is to examine the health problems of nursing students related to climate change and determine their awareness and behaviors. This descriptive study included 386 students. Data were collected using the Individual Identification Form and the Climate, Health, and Nursing Scale. The mean age of the participants was 21.62 ± 3.89; 70% were female, and 47% were 4th-year students. Students who were informed about climate change had higher levels of knowledge, awareness, motivation, and behavior. It was concluded that students' knowledge about climate change had a positive effect on motivation and anxiety levels; while it did not have a significant effect on knowledge and awareness dimensions. Female students have higher levels of motivation and anxiety, which may play a role in shaping gender norms' sensitivity and responses to climate change.
The Turkish version of the haemodialysis self-managementınstrument: a study of validity and reliability
(John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd, 2025) Tüzün Özdemir, Sevda; Usta Yeşilbalkan, Öznur
Aim: This study aims to adapt the ‘Hemodialysis Self-Management Instrument (HDSMI-18)’ to Turkish culture, and evaluate its psychometric properties. Background: Self-management plays a critical role in improving patients' adherence to treatment and quality of life; however, self-management assessment tools specific to haemodialysis patients are limited. Design: The research employed a methodological design. Methods: The data were collected with a total of 200 haemodialysis patients receiving haemodialysis treatment between 15 July and 15 August 2024. Content Validity Index, Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analyses, Cronbach's alpha, Test–retest reliability and item-total score correlation were used in data analysis. Results: The original HDSMI-18 consists of 18 items and four subdimensions (partnership, self-care, problem-solving, emotional management). However, the Turkish version of HDSMI-18 (HDSMI) comprises 17 items and introduces an additional fifth subdimension, ‘self-control’, alongside the four original subdimensions. The five-factor structure of the HDSMI demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and reliability. The scale's overall Cronbach's α coefficient was determined to be 0.77, with subscale coefficients ranging from 0.63 to 0.83. Conclusion: The HDSMI is a valid and reliable tool for assessing self-management behaviours among haemodialysis patients in the Turkish population.
Korona günlerinde gazetecilik: İzmir’de haber takibi
(Erciyes Üniversitesi, 2021) Kalender, Ahmet Buğra; Kazaz. Mete
Impact of yeast types on quality characteristics andstorage stability of industrial kefir
(Wiley, 2025) Yerlikaya, Oktay; Akpınar, Aslı; Saygılı, Derya
Kefir is a fermented dairy product that contains many types of lactic acid bacteria and different types of yeast. Yeasts in kefir culture are important in creating the unique properties of kefir. When yeasts are not included in kefir production, the unique properties of kefir do not emerge. In this study, the effects of various yeast microorganisms that can cause negative effects, such as swelling and deformation, in industrial kefir production on product quality characteristics were investigated. For this purpose, a commercial yeast-free kefir culture was supplemented with selected yeasts: Kluyveromyces marxianus (KM), Debaryomyces hansenii (DH), Kluyveromyces lactis (KL), Saccharomyces boulardii (SB), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC), Candida colliculosa (CC), Yarrowia lipolytica (YL), and Geotrichum candidum (GC) used in kefir production. Some physicochemical, rheological, microbiological, and sensory properties of the kefirs were examined during 28 days of storage. As a result of the research, the highest hardness and viscosity values (131.00 ± 1.41 g-1236.50 ± 47.38 cp) were observed in kefirs containing G. candidum, while the highest CO2 amount (151.40 ± 1.07 mg/100 mL) was determined in kefirs containing S. cerevisiae (p < 0.05). While serum separation was not determined in any sample, the highest water holding capacity (58.00% ± 00%) was determined in kefirs containing Y. lipolytica. In terms of sensory evaluation, kefir enriched with C. colliculosa received the highest overall acceptance. In general, the use of different yeast types in kefir production is of great importance, especially in terms of gas-carbon dioxide (CO2) formation and product quality.
